Inspiring Women

From the vibrant 1920s, these Inspiring Women stepped forward to claim new freedoms and new voices. Guided by curiosity and determination, they imagined a better world and dared to live beyond the limits of their time. In doing so, they opened doors that changed the course of history for women today. Their legacy is one of courage, possibility, and choice, the confidence to create a life on our own terms. Their journeys still encourage us to trust ourselves, follow our dreams, and move through life with grace and quiet strength.

" The problem of the environment is the extension of good housekeeping                       of the thinking women."

Marjory Stoneman Douglas was a voice for the wilderness when few listened. Born in 1890 in Minneapolis and later a resident of Florida, she became one of America’s greatest environmental champions and the fierce protector of the Everglades.

Writing was her first form of activism, and her words carried the rhythm of water and wind, transforming the way people saw the natural world. In 1947, her groundbreaking book The Everglades: River of Grass changed how the public understood this vast ecosystem, revealing it not as a swamp to be drained but as a living, breathing river essential to life in Florida.

Her advocacy never wavered. Into her nineties, she continued to speak, write, and rally against developers and politicians who sought to destroy the fragile lands she loved. Her sharp wit and moral clarity earned her both respect and fear from those in power.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas reminds us that the health of the planet depends on human conscience and courage. She teaches us that one person’s steadfast voice can awaken a nation, and that defending beauty, even in the face of indifference, is one of the highest callings of the human spirit.
